Halloween

As I sit here waiting for class to begin on this Friday before Halloween, I can't but help to reflect on how much things have changed of late. My thesis ideas continue to grow and expand in my mind but I am still having difficulty putting them down on paper. Halloween just isn't the same once a good portion of the people I used to hamg out have moved away. I simply don't fit in as well, which oddly enough doesn't really bother me much. Its nice to have a quiet weekend to focus or in this case visit home and spend time with my parents. I just Ned to remember to take my Halloween movie collection with me. And to study for my upcoming test, which still make me nervous despite the success I've been seeing in that field. Maybe I'll hand out candy, too. Only time will tell.

Autumn

I have to say I that the fall is my favorite time of year. Halloween is one of the top two holidays in my book (the other being Christmas). I love the weather, watching the leaves change, the reenactment fairs, and the football.  Life is so much better when you get to sleep with the windows open and there's a briskness in the air. Also. I finally got my speaker set which completes my new computer set-up. And little Darby is all curled up and ready for bed. Life is good. Make that great.

:)

So it's been about 2 days since my new computer was delivered and I have to say it has turned out to be everything I hoped it would be. It's quite a leap going from a 6-year old laptop that is getting more and more temperamental in its old age to something new and much more powerful. Also, it's shiny and who doesn't like shiny. It's been tricky, though, getting used to all the differences. I have to remember that I'll be using a full size keyboard almost all the time now and that there's no touch pad. However, those are just minor issues compared to my laptop's tendancy to shut down at 52% battery and the ever increasing blue screen of death. This new [mystery]machine (I've also named all of my external hard drives after the members of Mystery Inc.) is well worth the investment and minor issues. Always remember that a 23" monitor is probably bigger than you think it is, especially when you get two of them.

New Compy

So I just ordered a new computer today and I'm pretty excited about it. My current laptop has passed the 6-year mark and I think it might be time to move on. Spontaneous shut downs and horrible battery life are becoming more and more of a nuisance. I still need to figure out where I'm going to relocate the stuff on my desk, but that'll come. Also, I finally received some feedback on an assignment which will greatly help me complete the next one and not have it be total shit. Novel, I know. I should probably check out Homestar Runner soon, it's been way too long.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more

I write to you from my desk as I begin the first assignment of a new year. And while it may not seem that I am more focused this time around (blogging instead of actually writing and all), I feel more focused. I just feel better as a whole. I actually enjoyed my classes yesterday, which is something that has not happened for some time now. I didn't dread buying books or supplies. I feel that there is a great deal of promise and successes ahead. This year will be a banner year. This I promise you.

yes

As I sit here awaiting the arrival of what will be my sixth year of higher education, I am actually looking forward to classes. This is a rare feeling as of late, but a promising start after what was a train wreck during the last three semesters. I am looking forward to completing my thesis, which in my opinion, has great potential. One thing I will miss greatly will be those great people that I have grown close to and who have moved on to bigger and better things. It will be quite a different experience will out these people around me. However, different can also be good and beneficial. It will be nice to get new opinions on old ideas. Let this new journey begin. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

As I begin this journey...

...down a road that seems quite familiar, I must try and take a different path than I did before.  The last path I took was what I considered to be the safe way.  And while it may have started as the safe way, it slowly became a path to ruin and nowhere. All it really has done has shown me what kind of person I become when faced with adversity and trying times and I really did not like what that person looked like. So this time, I feel the better choice is a path that does not look safe and one that challenges me in ways that I have not been challenged before. I am a better person than the one most people are familiar with. Somewhere along the journey, I seemed to have lost track of who I am and what I am capable. Time to set sail for uncharted waters, my friends. And I'll be damned if I get in my way again.

Vintage Bentley Lighter

Also, I just recently came into a vintage Bentley lighter and was wondering if anyone out there could help. Is there a way to refill the tank? And I believe that the wheel will not rotate and I really don't know how to remedy these.

Here We Go...(again)

I have decided that it would probably be best if I consolidated my blogs down into a single one. So while this was initially a design oriented blog, it has since expanded into something a little broader. I do think this is for the best. I'll still be able to display my work and give the masses an insight into me as a designer.

Slowly but surely

While I realize that I may have been neglecting this blog, I also realize that I haven't really had much to write about. Things have taken an interesting turn as far as the future is concerned. Unlike my classmates and a great many friends, I will not be advancing into the real world just yet. I have the privilege (or punishment) of returning to Muncie and Ball State for another go around. While initially this was quite a depressing predicament, I have grown to see that this may be an opportunity that I can use for the best. Along with other changes, I hope to put forth extra effort in the projects this coming academic year and leave with my head held high. The best is yet to come.

well isn't this interesting?

So I've been pretty busy recently, for which I apologize to all my readers (haha, just kidding:)). Anywho, I'm still working of my portfolio (went with a graphic novel type approach) and my thesis. I've also done some , in my opinion, pretty decent HDR photos. But I'll let you judge.

almost forgot about this one

As I said before, it may take awhile to get actually samples of work up on here (most of the pieces are ready, but I'm a bum). Anywho, today I realized that I would really like a time machine. Not necessarily to go back and change things that I have done in the past (though it is a very tempting thought, but then you go into the argument about whether or not I would have had the need to create a time machine if things were different and it gets complicated). I would rather just like to go back in time and watch things happen. It would also be nice if the machine wasn't just stationary either. Or if I could create a machine that would take you to different worlds within cinema and other media. What would Rapture really be like before it fell? To go to Naboo before the Clone Wars took place. To actually experience those places shown to us through film and graphic novels and video games. How interesting would that be?
